Esta noticia la supe ayer por un mail que han enviado a los que tenemos cuenta en alguna de las dos páginas. La página de venta de juegos de rol, en PDF o formato fisico, RPG Now dejara de existir en febrero de 2019 al ser absorbida por Drivethru RPG.
El motivo de esta decisión básicamente atiende a que, aunque en un inicio eran páginas separadas y tenían públicos diferentes, con el paso del tiempo empezaron a ser redundantes ya que mucho del material que encontrabas en una, lo encontrabas en la otra, hasta llegar al momento actual en que por volumen de ventas,promociones, la gran cantidad empresas y creativos implicados (Muchos de prestigio) y sistemas con los que se podía aportar material a la comunidad y tener la posibilidad de cobrar por ello (El Storyteller's Vault de White Wolf y Onyx Path, o el Cypher System Creator Program de Monte Cook), entre otras cosas, habían eclipsado totalmente la pagina, solapandola y en algunos puntos casi fagocitandola. Sencillamente, RPG Now se marchitaba y Drivethru RPG crecia fuerte y lozana.
Así que, como ambas comparten la misma cuenta en OneBookShelf, RPG Now va a ser absorbida por Drivethru RPG. Lo que pasa que el proceso llevará su tiempo y por eso lo dejan para Febrero del año que viene, que tampoco esta tan lejos.
En que afecta esto, pues, a clientes y empresas, y sobre todo a aficionados de a pie como nosotros? En nada, en teoría. No hará hacer migraciones , no habrá que hacer nuevas contraseñas, el historial de compras realizadas y la biblioteca se mantiene y se unifican,...Así que en teoría no hay ningún solo problema para nosotros y son todo ventajas. Ahora bien, creo que sería aconsejable, sobre todo si hemos sido clientes de RPG Now durante mucho tiempo, tomar alguna precaución menor, como por ejemplo hacer un listado con capturas de pantalla de la sección de Biblioteca para que con la fusión no se pierda nada por algún fallo tonto, que pasa hasta en las mejores casas.
Es una pena que desaparezca RPG Now, para que negarlo. Ahora bien, lo cierto es que Drivethru RPG le había comido tanto terreno en los últimos cinco años que la existencia de RPG Now tenia muy poco sentido a día de hoy, porque lo que encontrabas en ella, se podía encontrar casi de seguro en la otra y con más opciones, mas variedad de productos, etc. De hecho, por ejemplo en mi caso, yo empecé primero en Drivethru RPG y tiempo mas tarde me apunte a RPG Now, aunque la que mas usaba y uso, es la primera. Mientras la absorción de la página se lleve a cabo sin problemas, creo que todo son ventajas.

Starting in February 2019, all elements of the RPGNow tool pages and storefront will redirect to similar pages on DriveThruRPG.
You most likely know this, but since RPGNow and DriveThruRPG first merged as businesses back in 2006, they have shared all the same tools and digital inventory. On the front end, they looked and behaved like two separate sites, but essentially, they have just been two faces of the same site for many years. The only real differences were the color schemes and logos.
You might have some questions about the coming change, so we’ve done our best to anticipate and answer them below.
Customers: How will this affect me?
In almost every way, you’ll be unaffected. Your entire library of purchases from RPGNow is already available to you on DriveThruRPG (as it always has been!), and you can log in to DriveThruRPG using the same account you’ve always used on RPGNow, just as you could before.Even your old bookmarks to pages on RPGNow.com will still work: They’ll automatically be redirected to the same page on DriveThruRPG.
In almost every way, you’ll be unaffected. You’ll just be finding them on a slightly different-looking storefront.

Yes, as far as sales records and your titles’ metal rankings, we will be merging those together.Starting in February, your sales records will show combined sales of each title across both the deprecated RPGNow site and DriveThruRPG, together. The number of unit sales will also be combined, so if you had metal rankings for titles on one or both sites, there’s a good chance you’ll find that your rankings on some titles will have increased on DriveThruRPG.

If you have used your PPP to purchase site impressions for banners or featured product messages on RPGNow, you will also be reimbursed, commensurately, for those expenditures on DriveThruRPG.

Here’s the big picture: In the 12 years since RPGNow and DriveThruRPG merged, the growth of RPGNow has tapered off constantly, while DriveThruRPG has continued to grow strongly, year over year, since it launched in 2004. We’ve reached the point where RPGNow rarely draws new customers or publishers and sells less than one-tenth the volume of titles purchased on DriveThruRPG.To be honest, we have known this moment would come for years now. We’ve just finally decided it’s time to put the RPGNow brand out to pasture and merge it with DriveThruRPG. "
